IDC Asia/Pacific recently launched a new program on Cloud Services and Technologies. This program is specially designed to provide market insight to ICT vendors which are delivering or planning to deliver cloud services and technologies in the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APeJ region.
In this LIVE web conference, Chris Morris, Director for IDC's Asia/Pacific Services Research, will outline the scope of the new program, provide a high level view of the regional cloud market, and share with the audience IDC's observations of current customer attitudes toward existing cloud services.
According to IDC, the market for cloud services in APeJ lags that of the United States and Europe in many ways. Our analysis also shows that the APeJ market for cloud services will grow rapidly, but it is currently dominated by Software as a Service (SaaS) cloud solutions. This warrants different treatments by participating ICT vendors as market differences entail changes in go-to-market strategies.
In the United States & parts of European, SaaS is moving rapidly into enterprise-level application suites, integrative platforms, and complex marketplaces/ecosystems. On the other hand, the vast majority of SaaS development in APeJ is still focused on first-generation, low-cost, easy-to-install offerings. In addition, SaaS solutions in this region center around industry-specific applications and process functionality. Here, they also tend to be developed and sold as a replacement for existing, on-premises applications softwares.
Currently, customers of cloud services in this region include a few very large user enterprises and a vast array of very small, disparate user companies. One can say that the opportunities for SaaS offerings are oriented either toward very large, mostly industrial firms (e.g., with some very large banks, healthcare providers, and IT services firms), or very small firms with specific business operations (e.g., small manufacturers, services firms).
Undeniably, there is a huge influential presence and culture of custom IT in the region. IT buying practices are predominently based on customization and historical vendor relationships. "The way it has always been done" is the standard "model" for IT buying here.
Using the findings from recent industry polls and surveys that IDC has conducted, this LIVE web conference will provide insight into how IDC expects cloud services to be adopted by enterprises in Asia/Pacific, which services they are most likely to use first, and when they will adopt them. The web conference will also discuss the recently completed IDC APeJ forecast for the cloud services markets.
