New trends continue to emerge in the core banking market in the Asia/Pacific region, underscoring the extent of transformation being seen in the broader financial services industry.
Although the number of whole-of-core deals and module-based deals decreased in 2009, IDC Financial Insights expects an uptick in core banking deals going forward. Banks' preferences have clearly shifted — instead of packaged, complete banking systems, they are increasingly leaning toward more modular, service-oriented architecture approach to core banking renewal.
IDC Financial Insights also predicts that in the long term, core banking projects will become similar to business process reengineering programs in banks. With this new approach, it brings the business transformation agenda to a broader array of stakeholders, making core banking initiatives more than just "high-risk projects for the technology folks", a stigma typically attached to core banking projects in the past. |
